About

Eygus keeps three people busy full time, and our varied backgrounds (see below) give us a range of perspectives on the projects we undertake. For larger scale projects we draw on a wide network of associates and specialists, always ensuring that we maintain final responsiblity for delivery.

We do a substantial amount of consultancy work for the Open University (the world leader in distance education), and we developed and currently manage the Open University's virtual worlds project, including their Second Life® presence ('Open University' and 'OUtopia' islands).

Other clients have included Aston University, DIUS, The Daily Mail, The Engineering Council-UK, The National Extension College, BAE Systems (working with OU CPLD), Goodrich (working with OU CPLD), Logica (working with OU CPLD), MacIntyre Healthcare (working with OU CPLD), NHS (working with OU CPLD) and Thompson Reuters (working with OU CPLD).

Everyone at Eygus, either full time or associate, is a lifelong learner - we believe in practising what we preach.

Ian is a Chartered Engineer and spent the first 15 years of his career developing real-time control & measurement systems for large industrial applications (e.g the Channel Tunnel, Silicon Chip manufacture, Mobile Telephony). After mentoring a few graduates, about 8 years ago, he retrained as a teacher (PGCE Adult Ed.) and has since spent his time teaching Engineering, Product Development and Project Management both online and face-to-face; he's an associate lecturer for the Open University. As well as supporting learning, writing courses and developing online activities, he still enjoys the more practical aspects of Engineering and continues to write software [LSL, PHP, MySQL, Javascript, C++, UML] and develop projects.
He recently completed his electrician's qualifications, and in an effort to balance the cerebral and physical side of things, has started to develop some electrical installation work.

Greg's background is in architectural CAD, GIS and Web Design. He is a well respected Project Manager who has spent the last year working full-time on our Second Life developments for the Open University. This has involved both managing the technical aspects of the islands (such as permissions, scripting, group management, parcel management etc) and maintaining the social aspects of the islands communities (arranging social events, introducing new members to the communities). He is an outspoken advocate of bringing established Web usability principles to Virtual Worlds. Greg likes computers, gadgets and drinking toffee-apple flavoured cider (I know, it sounds revolting...but what can you do)
